Death: Gary Stephen Herring Obituary – In a beautiful and tranquil manner, Gary Stephen “Steve” Herring died away at his residence in Calypso on the morning of Easter Monday, April 1, 2024, at roughly dawn. His passing occurred on the first day of the Easter holiday. While he was passing away and going to his final resting place, he was surrounded by a significant number of people who loved him. It was in the year 1971 when Steve graduated from North Duplin High School with his high school diploma.

Following his enrollment at East Carolina University, where he finally got a degree in health and physical education in 1975, he was awarded a baseball scholarship to attend the university. The year 1977 marked his graduation with a degree. In the same year, 1975, he received a contract to play baseball with the Philadelphia Phillies, a team that competed in the New York Penn League (A ball). Through the course of his professional life, he spent a considerable amount of time working in the manufacturing industry.

During his time at Standard Products, he was responsible for a wide range of tasks, one of which was serving as the plant manager. After working at Wayne Community College for the past five years, he has been promoted to the position of Director of Customized Training for professional and industrial settings. He has held this job for the entirety of his tenure. A premature retirement was required because of the individual’s bad health. The cherished aunt of Steve, Joan Grubbs Jennett, as well as his parents, Jack and Ellen Grubbs Herring, had already passed away before to Steve’s existence.

When Steve passed away, his parents were there to greet him. He is survived by his wife, Gail Daniels Herring, of the home; two sons and their wives, Adam and Traci Herring, and Josh and Robyne Herring, all of Mount Olive; four precious grandchildren, Parker, Raegan, Cannon, and Scarlett Herring, all of Mount Olive; a brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Brenda Herring of Ayden; his mother-in-law, Rose B. Mellette and her husband, Marion Mellette of Kinston; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Connie Daniels Strickland and Robert Strickland; and special friends, Dero and Carolyn Burroughs.

There will be a visitation held at the Tyndall Funeral Home on Wednesday evening, April 3, from six to eight o’clock. Relatives and friends of the Herring family will be present for the visitation. All of the funeral ceremonies that are scheduled to take place on Thursday, April 4, at eleven o’clock in the morning will be held at the Calypso Cemetery, which is located close to the gravesite. There will be a ceremony that will be presided over by the Reverend Paul Rose. Additionally, it is probable that friends and relatives will be able to observe the family when they are at the property.
