Death: Kenneth A. York Obituary – The department is paying its respects to retired Lieutenant Kenneth York, who passed away on March 27, 2024. His cremation is taking place today, and the department is paying its respects to him. Around the year 1987, we were fortunate to uncover this photograph in our archives, which depicts Lieutenant York responding to a home fire that occurred at 308 Fort Street. Please keep retired Lieutenant York and his family in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you for your consideration of this request.

This photograph was generously provided by Theodore Hopkins, who had retired from his position as Battalion Chief. On March 27, 2024, Lt. Kenneth A. York, who had lived in Seekonk all his life and had reached the age of 84, passed away peacefully without experiencing any pain. He was a loving spouse to his wife, Judith A. (Turbitt) York, while they were they were married. His mother, Melvyn York, had passed away, and his father, Lillian (White) York, was the one who gave birth to him in Providence. He was their son.

At the time of Ken’s retirement from the East Providence Fire Department in 1994, he had been a member of the department for a total of 27 years. He had reached the rank of Lieutenant during his tenure with the department. Every single time, he looked forward to the opportunity to get together with his pals from the fire station for breakfast. He was always excited about this opportunity. In addition to that, he was a fervent supporter of sports in the New England region and he enjoyed playing golf.

His wife is the only person he leaves behind. He is also survived by his daughter, Kristen Pruett, and her husband, Lawrence Ouellette; two grandchildren, Justin Pruett and Jacob Pruett; two sisters, Jean Serio and Kathleen Jacob; and a great number of nieces and nephews.
