Mark Young Obituary Natick, MA, (1960 – 2024) – Death Notice And Visitation

Death: Mark Young Obituary – Mark A. Young, 64, of Natick, MA (originally Virginia Beach, VA), died peacefully on March 23, 2024, following an eleven-year struggle with multiple myeloma. He was fortunate to spend his last days with his wife, Laurie, and his two boys, Alex and Matt. Mark, a naturally curious person, was eager to learn about everyone he met. Mark had an unusual capacity to leave a “mark” on everyone he met, whether at work, the bank, or on errands to the local market. He would frequently remind his sons to “pay attention to life”. He was able to remember even the most intricate facts about the individuals in his life by setting a good example. His concern for others made him an excellent father, spouse, friend, and neighbor.

Mark succeeded as a student athlete at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was Treasurer of the Saint Anthony Hall Fraternity and a member of the men’s heavy weight crew squad. Following Penn, he earned his MBA from the New York University Stern School of Business in Manhattan. Mark had a successful professional career as a banker, having worked at Manufacturers Hanover Trust in New York City, State Street Bank, and Citizens Bank of Boston. Following decades of developing solid contacts in the publishing sector, he founded his own advisory firm, Grist Mill Advisors, in 2007.

Mark, a man of deep faith, was an active member of Pilgrim Church in Sherborn, Massachusetts. He was treasurer for the church board and a member of the memorial endowment committee. Mark enjoyed carrying on his childhood traditions by hosting potluck meals and church-wide family weekend vacations on the Cape. He wanted his children to have the same experiences that had been so meaningful to him growing up.

Mark, an ardent reader, relished spending his free time looking for the next great historical biography. In addition, he enjoyed attending sporting events with his boys and lounging by the pool with his wife and best friend Laurie. Mark was very stoic about his sickness. He learned everything he could about his ailment, multiple myeloma, and was an excellent patient. Drug firms put him on expert patient panels and invited him to speak about his experience living with this disease at their conferences. He became a mentor to other people with multiple myeloma, sharing his experiences in the hopes of making their path easier.

Mark is survived by his wife, Laurie (Elgas) of Natick, MA; his sons, Alex Young of Boston and Matt Young of New York City; his sister, Rebecca Stack of Montpelier, VA and her husband Raymond Stack; his father, Ron Young of Richmond, VA; his Aunt Connie Young of West Chester, PA; his Uncle Ron Walters of East Patchogue, NY; his niece Sarah Stack of Richmond, VA; his nephew Christopher Stack of Charlottesville, VA and his wife Kayla; and numerous cousins. Relatives and friends are welcome to his wake on Saturday, April 6, 2024, from 1:00-4:00 PM at the John Everett Funeral Home in Natick, 4 Park Street. His funeral will be conducted on Sunday, April 7th at 1:00 p.m. at Pilgrim Church, 25 S. Main Street Sherborn.
