David Hicks Obituary Robbinsville, NC (1947- 2024) – Death Notice And Visitation

Death: David Hicks Obituary – David’s brave fight against cancer was ultimately futile, and he died on Monday, March 25, 2024. After overcoming his illness, he went to be with the Lord and lived there. Survivors include his children Faith (married to Tim), Noah (married to Whitney), Nathan, and Robin, as well as his nieces and nephews. Jill, his wife of 53 years, is also among those who have survived him. When he became Lydia and Alexander’s grandfather eight years ago, he was most delighted about the opportunity to be their Pappy.

On June 25, 1947, David was born in Jacksonville, Florida. This city is situated in the state of Florida. He was a strong supporter of nonviolent conflict resolution approaches due to his involvement in the Vietnam War. He and Jill traveled to Canada in the early 1980s. David worked mostly as a teacher and counselor at the School for the Deaf in Vancouver and Milton. He was able to maintain his connection to his roots by communicating with his Deaf parents, Todd and Pauline Hicks. During his time with Mennonite Disaster Services, David oversaw the construction and reconstruction of homes in New Orleans and the Florida panhandle following Hurricane Katrina’s devastation.

These homes were found in the aftermath of the disaster. He rode his bicycle throughout southern Ontario, into upper New York, and all the way around the Great Lakes, racking up almost limitless kilometers. His trek to Faith in Halifax, Nova Scotia, was the longest ride he’d ever taken. Nobody else will be able to replicate his likeness. Respectfully, Pappy, we adore you. Viewing will take held on Thursday, March 28, 2024, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at St. George’s Anglican Church, 4691 Palladium Way in Burlington. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at 11 a.m., before the viewing. Rather than sending flowers, David asked that donations be directed to Mennonite Disaster Services (MDS) and Micah House in Hamilton. We are thankful for your generosity. Both of these organizations are based in Hamilton.
