Death: Donnie Crum Obituary – Donnie Crum began his career in law enforcement in 1973 with the Sheriff’s Auxiliary. He was born and reared in Wakulla County, where he also graduated from high school. After that, he devoted the last 35 years to working hard and climbing the ranks of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. From 1985 until 1989, he served as a Special Agent with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, where he was responsible for domestic narcotics operations. After that, he went back to his hometown to take on the role of Major with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Subsequently, he reached the position of Undersheriff. When he was appointed as the Sheriff of Wakulla County twice, the most significant moment of his career occurred. The first time, in 2008, he was named as Interim Sheriff by former Governor Charlie Crist, and the second time, in 2011, he was appointed as Sheriff by former Governor Rick Scott. Crum held this position until his retirement in 2013, when he stepped down. A graduate of the Florida Criminal Justice Executive Institute, Crum attended the program.

He took great pride in his membership in the Florida Sheriff’s Association, the Florida Intelligence Unit, and the Big Bend Narcotics Task Force, which was considered to be one of the most successful task forces in the region. His covert operations with local, state, and federal agencies, such as the Florida Marine Patrol, the United States Coast Guard, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the United States Attorney’s Office, resulted in the seizure of drugs and money amounting to millions of dollars. His work spanned a period of 38 years. These activities resulted in the prosecution of hundreds of criminals and contributed to his law enforcement career that lasted for his entire life and earned him numerous promotions.

Over the course of nearly four decades, Sheriff Crum has been dedicated to serving the people of Wakulla County. During that period of time, Sheriff Crum’s leadership was instrumental in guiding and transforming the Washington County Sheriff’s Office into the contemporary and professional institution that it is today. Sheriff Crum, may you rest in peace. We are grateful for your devoted service and say that we will continue to keep watch from here.
At the Family Funeral Home in Crawfordville, there will be a visitation on Friday, March 29th, from five o’clock to seven o’clock in the evening.
-!On Saturday, March 30th, beginning at eleven o’clock in the morning, The Sopchoppy Southern Baptist Church will be the location of a celebration of life.
